The Last Witch

The Last Witch by Rona Munro is a play written about the historical account of Janet Horne who was the last woman to be murdered for the suspicion of being a witch in Dornoch, Scotland. The play themes include power, feminism, agriculture and paganism. It explores both Janet, her daughter and the village life during the 17th centaury. Directed by Fay Lomas for Drama Centre London. The design was inspired by classical paintings from painters from the Scottish and Dornoch decent. Particularly A Farmyard by Isack Van Ostade. The classical romanticism of paintings had hues of earth tones, browns, golds, dark green and red which inspired the color pallet of design. Also in act 2 , a much more dystopian scene it was the painting of Salvator Rosa – Witches at their Incarnations that inspired the design for the final scene. (Due to COVID 19 it was unable to be fully realsed to an audience)
